Coordinator

1 – JOB DESCRIPTION

 The coordinator is someone specialized in his own discipline, highly experienced in educational sciences, often selected among the staff by the school management, or hired from outside, to be in charge of the organization of the teaching performance in one of the teaching disciplines, as well as of the coordination among the educators, during one or more teaching sessions, taking into account the education policy of the institution.

 

2 – REFERENCE

In academic matters the coordinator reports to the Section Head then to the Branch Head, and last to the School Principal in accordance with the administrative hierarchy.

 

3– MAIN TASKS

  1. Tasks related to the academic section. The Coordinator:
  • Discusses with the Section Head details on high academic teaching policy drawn up by the school management.
  • Informs the Section Head about the yearly and half-yearly syllabus of the subject in every cycle and class.
  • Ensures, with Section Head and other coordinators, common united links among men and women teachers in the same subject in all sequences.
  • Informs the Section Head about the agenda of the activities related to the subject.
  • Draws up with the Section Head training programs for the educators.
  • Evaluates with the Section Head, on a regular basis, the subject stand, at the levels of programs, syllabus, education and benefits.
  • Informs the Section Head about his evaluation of the school books in the sequences he is responsible for.
  • Together with the Section Head, the coordinator selects every new teacher that the school management intends to hire for work.
  • In case he does not see the need for any change in his fellow coordinators, be it on the teachers and their repartition in classes level, or on the books series level, he reports the matter in writing to the Section Head, so as the necessary be done with the School Principal and the Branches Heads.

 

  1. Tasks related with the teachers. The Coordinator:
  • Ensures communication and links among the teachers horizontally and vertically.
  • Enquires on the yearly and half-yearly programs together with the general and specific targets set, and has discussions with them thereon.
  • Incites them to diversify teaching methods (active, team work, independent work…)
  • Agrees with them on methods and ways of formulating and correcting questions, and reserves the right to cancel, amend or combine any exam paper prepared by a teacher.
  • Gives them model lessons with the view of training them on most possible teaching methods.
  • Stays updated with the preparation workbooks and discusses with them how far their application corresponds with the general repartition of the programs, syllabus and targets.
  • Keeps regular presence in classes to be aware of the current teachings methods, communication, interaction and performance.
  • Exchanges with them, individually and in groups, experiences, educational data in force especially the latest ones.
  • Provides regular training for the teachers in collaboration with the Section Head and Branches Heads.
  • Provides them with all educational tools, equipment and documents.
  • Participates with them in the workshop of the school book evaluation
  • Meets with them weekly, individually or in small groups at a class level/ and regularly at the level of one session or more.
  • Discusses and evaluates with them the students’ status.
  • Sets up with them a program of “Personalized Pedagogy” taking into account this evaluation.

 

  1. Tasks related with the students

The coordinator is linked with the students in 2 ways:

  • Indirectly:
    • Trough staying updated on their notebooks, experiences and exams sat for and corrected by the teachers.
    • Together with the teachers, the coordinator watches over the educational and profitable ongoing process of the students, since he points out to them the weaknesses and strengths in the performance.
    • With all concerned people in the management and in the teaching field. Works on finding the means, procedures and settlements likely to help the struggling student to overcome what hinders his learning and profiting.
    • Participates in the cultural activities organized by the students.

 

  • Directly
    • Through meeting them in class and following up on their interaction with their men and women teachers and the educational subject, and through meeting them individually upon the Section Head’s request on the consequences of an educational problem.
    • During his attending one of the teaching sessions, the coordinator has the right to ask questions to one or to a group of students in order to find out through their answers some clues, as he has the right to give them some guidelines and recommendations on the subject in particular and on education in general.

 

General tasks

  • The coordinator meets with the Section Head regularly, at least once a month, in order to inform her (him) on the ongoing operational process in the section, on the performance and results, whereas on the educators’ level or on that of the students, evaluating together the general outcome.

 

4 – THE SCIENTIFIC, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL SKILLS:

The men/woman teacher selected by the school to take on the teaching, cultural and educational assignment, must be:

  • Holder of a university degree in the discipline he teaches,
  • Mastering enough culture in the discipline he teaches,
  • Equipped with educational culture enabling him to understand the educational problems and solve them,
  • Aware of all that is required to be developed on all levels and teaching sessions,
  • Mastering his discipline language, able to speak and communicate fluently,
  • Following up on the most recent teaching methods and styles,
  • Well versed in teaching and education, with enough experience gathered throughout his work or through specialized training sessions,
  • Well versed in information technology, skillful in making use and exploiting it to facilitate and enrich his work.

Note:

If the person, selected by the management to carry on the teaching assignment, is he must enjoy readiness and eagerness for training prior to start his work, knowing that his appointment is made in the light of a number of data and criteria, among which: ( he must have a rich CV, more than one meeting with the school principal, the Section Head and the coordinators, have attended classes during the month of May to get acquainted with the class environment and school ambience, have attended a model class session given by one of the colleagues, he must have prepared a lesson and given it in one of the classes, etc.) (refer to the contract and hiring document).

 

5 – PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND GENERAL BEHAVIOR:

The man/woman teacher at the Antonine Sisters’ schools must:

  • Have a Christian spirituality and be committed to church
  • Have a good reputation
  • Be able to accept the other and communicate with him with openness and flexibility
  • Be pragmatic, creative, energetic, wakeful, smart, organized, patient, and always ready,
  • Have an ability to listen, accept and understand

 

It is expected from him:

  • To take care of his external appearance, his looks, cleanliness and
  • To refrain from showing personal feeling stemming from personal problems
  • To be exact in appointments; arrivals, departures, handing works, etc.
  • To avoid absence except for circumstances
  • To avoid being biased towards any of the teachers,
  • To abstain from accepting gifts and offering them to the students, leaving to the management alone the right to offer gifts to those who deserve them,
  • To yearn for self- development and continuous training,
  • To be positive in dealing with evaluation results from the management or from the coordinators and/or the Section Head or from the class delegate, and the wish of turning this evaluation into a way of self-development, as well as skills and performance progress.
